Your Kingdom Come

Praying the way Jesus Taught

Matthew 6:10 ESV

10 Your kingdom come,
your will be done,[a]
on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus just taught the people how important it was to recognize the Holiness of God.  Right after that He explained how they were to ask for the Kingdom of God to come.  This was a way of asking for God to come and reign here on earth as He does in Heaven.

This prayer is still very relevant to us today.  We need to be asking for the Spiritual Kingdom of God to come and reign in our lives.  Much like how God holds all majesty in Heaven, we need to invite Him into our personal lives to be our Ruler.

The middle of this verse shows Jesus saying the words He would later say with agony, but with the same intention.  We are to pray for God’s will to be done.  We can do nothing on our own to further the plans God has for us without knowing and accepting His will.  This is not always easy to do since we are creatures of desiring our own will.  We know what we want when we want it.  However, God is the only One who really knows what is best for us.

Father, I come to You today with a heart of gratitude.  I choose to lay my own desires down and ask for Your will to be done in my life.  Please meet me where I am and guide me to glorious places with You.  I pray I may honor You with all I do.  Thank You.  In Jesus’ Name, Amen!
